Welcome!
I am a tenured Assistant Professor in Global Governance at Leiden University’s Institute of Security and Global Affairs (ISGA), within the Faculty of Governance and Global Affairs (FGGA).
My research interests include global human rights governance, the use of expertise in public bodies, and state compliance with international law. I particularly focus on the fight against torture and other forms of violence within global and regional organizations. My research is published in International Studies Quarterly, International Affairs, the European Journal of International Relations, Cooperation and Conflict, Global Governance, Human Rights Quarterly, The Netherlands Quarterly of Human Rights, the Journal of International Humanitarian Action, and European Integration online Papers.
I am regularly engaged in policy-relevant research and in providing advice to international policymakers. In 2020 I served as an expert consultant to the United Nations on the use of peer reviews among states to monitor compliance with international financial integrity standards.
